Colour Run!

Students in K-6 had fun in the sun at the 2017 Colour Run on Friday! Thankfully, the weather held out for us. Thank you to Mrs Elsley for organising this event and to everyone who helped out leading up to and on the day. Well done to all our students for their fundraising and running efforts. You could not find happier or more brightly coloured kids than ours!

NAIDOC Celebrations

Well done to all of our students for their excellent participation in our NAIDOC celebration activities yesterday! We began the day with a smoking ceremony, performed by Awabakal Land Council elders, followed by singing and dancing performances from the Millibah students from HSPA. Students also enjoyed taking part in a variety of activities throughout the day, including traditional dance, languages, face painting, and canvas art. Thank you to Miss Chapman for organising such a great day.

ANZAC Assembly

Today we paid respect to the sacrifices made by Australian men and women during times of war at our annual ANZAC Assembly. Each class made a beautiful poppy wreath to lay on our school memorial. Well done to Cooper and Nyah, who were selected to carry our wreath. ANZAC Day is a very special time for their families as they have great grandparents that served our country. Cooper wore the medals his great great grandfather received for his service in his honour today. Well done also to our Captains, Lucy, Ember, and Oscar, who spoke beautifully today.

Thank you to everyone who came along to our moving ceremony. Lest we forget.

SRC Super Hero Disco

Thank you to all our super heroes and super villains who took a night off fighting crime to boogie at the SRC Disco! You all looked amazing! I was able to chat with DJ Mixalot and DJ Dancelot before they boarded their flight back to London and they said they had an absolute blast with you guys! Here are some photos. Enjoy!

Mini Olympics

Unfortunately, due to the poor weather and conditions of the grounds, our Mini-Olympics event did not go ahead today. We have re-scheduled this event for this coming Monday 29th August.
This will mean that our K-2 and 3-6 assemblies will not be on. 2HE, who were scheduled to present next week will do this in Week 8.
Students are still encouraged to come dressed out of uniform in sporting attire of their country’s colours.

STEM Day – Education Week

To celebrate Education Week 2016, THPS held a STEM Day and invited grandparents and families to join in on the fun. Students in Stage 3 led a variety of science experiments for years K-4, including making sherbet, slime, wobbly balloons, the top diver experiment, balloon rockets, exploding lunch bags, and rocket pinwheels. I was incredibly proud of the way our mini scientists ran their experiments, taking their time to explain concepts to younger students and involving everyone in their group. We then enjoyed a sausage sizzle lunch with families. Despite the poor weather today, it was lovely to see so many Tighes Hill families come along and show their support. There were many proud grandparents watching their grandchildren learn today and it was a genuine pleasure to be involved in this event. After lunch, students headed back to their classrooms where they participated in engineering challenges. Kindergarten constructed cup towers, years 1 and 2 built structures out of jubes and toothpicks and tested their strength by placing different weighted objects on them (before consuming all the delicious jubes left over at the end!), years 3 and 4 made catapults using rubber bands, paddle pop sticks, and spoons, and years 5 and 6 took part in the egg drop challenge, where they had to build a cage to protect a raw egg and drop their cage from different heights. It was such a fantastic day that was put together by our wonderful staff and community. Well done to our Year 5 and 6 students who really stepped up today. I could definitely see some future scientists and teachers as I visited the classes today. Here are some photos from our day!

Speak Off

Congratulations to Olivia and Ember, who were the winners of our Stage 3 Speak Off, and to Georgie and Jules, who were the winners of our Stage 2 Speak Off. It was a very tough competition with so many wonderful speakers. A shout out to Nyah and Hunter, who represented 5B and did a wonderful job. I was incredibly proud of all our speakers, as it can be quite nerve-wracking having to talk in front of such a large group of people, both in class and at the Speak Off. Olivia, Ember, Georgie, and Jules will now represent our school at a variety of public speaking competitions later this year with Mrs Derricott.

Disco Fever!

Well done to everyone who came along to our Dancing through the Decades Disco on Thursday. We had a great time as you can see in the photos below. Thank you to Miss Drew and the SRC for organising this event and to DJ Mix-a-lot for flying in from England to party with us!
